I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!

great news!! I just got offered the position at the Boys and Girls Club. I am the LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) in the Prevention Services Department. My job will be do conduct therapy sessions with youth ages 6-18. I will also do some family therapy and home/school visits and prevention education. It is a full time (M-F 9am-6pm) position that pays what I feel I deserve at this time. They have great benefits and reimburse for continuing education classes that I need to take in order to renew my license every year. They also reimburse for supervision hours in order to get my LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) which is the next license after my current one. I would have to have 3000 client contact hours while being supervised and you usually have to pay for supervision, but they reimburse me for that. I think this position is really great for me right now. I am very excited about it!! My official start date is August 9. Thanks for all that have been so supportive throughout this whole job hunt ordeal. I really appreciate it.

Job hunting is a tricky monster to tame

So, it seems that timing is of great importance when it comes to the job hunt. Here's the deal. Last week, I interviewed for two positions: one as a middle school social worker in Grand Prairie, the other as a Rehab Specialist at Millwood, Center for Chemical Dependency and Mental Health, here in Arlington. Both positions said they would get back to me by the end of the week, as in tomorrow. I now also have an interview set up with the Boys and Girls Club for tomorrow at 10 am for an LMSW in the Prevention Services Department, where I would be doing therapy with kids and their families and home/school visits. Another piece of important information is my interest in these positions. I am most interested in the middle school positions, then the Boys and Girls Club, then Millwood. So, here is my dilemma. Millwood offered me the position yesterday and I told them I was interested, but that I was waiting on another offer also. She said that was fine, but she needed an answer by Friday. So, I should hear from the school by Friday. So, if I get the school job, there is no problem. I accept that position and decline Millwood's offer by her deadline. Now, if I don't get the school job, there is a small problem with timing. I would like to interview with the Boys and Girls Club and wait to hear from them, but millwood needs an answer by Friday. So, I was thinking I could accept the Millwood job, but tell her I couldn't start for a week and that gives me enough time to hear back from the boys and girls club. If I get the Boys and Girls Club job, I could then decline the millwood position, but no matter what the Millwood position would be there to fall back on. I think this idea would work, but it is very mean and slightly unprofessional. I have never done it before, but people tell me it happens often in the job hunting world. Well, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, two pieces of good news in all this. One, no matter which job I get, I will have a full time job very soon. YEAH!! Also, Michael and I are going to see Sarah Mclachlan in concert tonight!!! YEAH FOR THAT!!

It's official!!

As of today, July 12, 2004, I am officially a Licensed Master Social Worker. I received my license in the mail today. :) I have a license and a Social Worker's Code of Ethics that I must display in my office at my place of employment. Now, the key will be to find a full time job in Arlington so I don't have to commute anymore and so I can have my license displayed for 40 hours a week instead of 20. :) well, I have an interview this Thursday with Grand Prairie Independent School District for a Middle School Social Worker position. I really want this job, wish me luck. :)

The birthday celebration is almost officially over!!

Well, the birthday celebration was so much fun. I had a great time. Michael and I headed up to addison on Saturday to get some dinner at the Blue Fish and see the Addison fireworks. We caught up with will and sarah and sarah's cute little girl, Mia, for the fireworks. it was a great time. Sunday, we headed back up to north dallas and ate some dinner at PF Chang's. It was so nice of everyone to come out to celebrate my birthday. we ate up in plano, so my sis could join us too. it was a great time. Then, we headed to my place in arlington to do some more celebrating. Michael had bought some carrot cake and ice cream. He loaded the cake with 25 candles and everyone sang me happy birthday. it was so special. Anyway, monday, i celebrated with my friend jenn. We got some lunch and saw the Stepford Wives. Tonight, my parents, sis and my aunt visiting from cali are all coming to arlington to check out my new place and do some more celebrating. overall, it was a super, fabulous birthday.

well, i am still job hunting. I have had several interviews, but i am still waiting for something i really want and that pays what i feel i deserve. I have an interview with a school for a middle school social worker position next week. i also just sent out my resume for a prevention educator/adolescent counselor position. I think that will be right up my alley. anyway, keep your fingers crossed and i will definitley keep you all posted as to how it is going.
